The 1979 O-Pee-Chee Wayne Gretzky #18 is the definitive rookie card of the NHL's all-time leading scorer and stands as one of the most important hockey cards ever produced. Graded PSA 8 Near Mint-Mint, this copy represents a premier, investment-grade asset that serves as a cornerstone piece for any serious sports card collection. Due to O-Pee-Chee's manufacturing process in Canada, which utilized wire-cut blades that left notoriously rough edges, finding clean examples from this set is difficult. This card presents strong centering, bright blue borders, and clear print quality across the front image and the bilingual English/French reverse.
PSA has graded 863 examples at the NM-MT 8 level, with only a small fraction of the total submission population grading higher. This low survival rate in high grades is driven by the card's extreme condition sensitivity, including print defects, centering issues, and edge chipping common to the 1979 printing run. For collectors seeking a high-grade, verified copy of "The Great One's" iconic rookie issue, this PSA 8 offers exceptional visual preservation.Show more
