This 1996-97 SkyBox E-X2000 Star Date 2000 #3 features Kobe Bryant during his 1996-97 rookie season with the Los Angeles Lakers. Graded BGS 9.5 Gem Mint, the card earned subgrades of 10 for Centering alongside 9.5 marks for Corners, Edges, and Surface. The 1996-97 E-X2000 issue is notable for its high condition sensitivity due to the combination of translucent plastic card stock, die-cut borders, and full-bleed surfaces, which frequently suffer from chipping and scratching. According to Beckett population records, 216 examples have achieved this BGS 9.5 grade. With its combination of rookie-year pedigree, condition rarity, and key subgrade marks, this is an investment-grade basketball asset.
The Star Date 2000 insert set debuted in E-X2000's inaugural release to highlight the young players anticipated to define the league's next generation. Issued during Bryant's first year in the NBA—a campaign highlighted by his victory in the 1997 Slam Dunk Contest and a record 31-point performance in the Rookie Challenge—this insert remains an era-defining rookie release from premium 1990s basketball card production.Show more
