This 1999 Pokémon Base Set 1st Edition Holo Blastoise #2 is graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. As one of the primary chase cards from the inaugural English Pokémon release, this copy features Ken Sugimori's original artwork, a 1st Edition stamp, and the shadowless border configuration unique to the set's earliest print run. There are 643 examples graded at this NM-MT 8 tier by PSA, representing a highly preserved survivor from the very beginning of the English trading card game.
The 1999 Base Set established the global foundation for the Pokémon TCG, with the shadowless 1st Edition printing standing as the most historic release in the hobby. Beyond its collectible status, Blastoise was a cornerstone of early competitive play, defining the game's first meta-deck strategy with its "Rain Dance" Pokémon Power, which allowed unlimited water energy attachments per turn. Alongside Charizard and Venusaur, this card completes the legendary trio of Kanto final-stage starters that remains the definitive pillar of vintage card collecting.Show more
