This 1999 Pokémon Base Set 1st Edition Pikachu #58 features the early "Red Cheeks" artwork variant illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita. Graded PSA 8 Near Mint-Mint, the card maintains bold color registration across the frame, clear text, and precise centering. PSA population records report 841 copies at this grade.
Originating from the inaugural 1999 English release of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, the Red Cheeks variant represents a short-lived production detail from Wizards of the Coast. Arita originally intended for Pikachu's cheeks to be yellow to reflect electrical sparks, which led to a mid-print core correction to yellow cheeks for subsequent Base Set runs. As a result, the red cheeks design is isolated to early 1st Edition and Shadowless printings, standing as one of the defining artwork variations of the vintage TCG era.Show more
