A true modern cornerstone, this 2017 Donruss Optic Gold Rated Rookie of Patrick Mahomes II stands among the most coveted parallels from the early career of the NFL's most dominant quarterback of the ultra modern era. Limited to just 10 copies worldwide, this Gold parallel represents a pinnacle within the highly regarded 2017 Optic release — a product synonymous with chrome-era innovation and mainstream accessibility, elevated here by the scarcity and visual impact of the gold refractor finish.
Graded BGS 9.5 GEM MINT, this exemplar earns elite subgrades across the board, including a flawless Edges 10 and 9.5s for Centering, Corners, and Surface. According to Beckett’s population report, only 7 copies have ever reached this tier, underscoring both the condition sensitivity of Optic Golds and the rarity of finding one preserved at this level.
As Mahomes continues to redefine greatness, this rookie-year Gold parallel has ascended into the upper echelon of football card investing. A two-time NFL MVP, three-time Super Bowl Champion, and Super Bowl MVP (x3) by the age of 29, Mahomes has already carved a trajectory toward all-time legend status. His electric play, leadership, and postseason brilliance have placed him in conversations reserved for the game's immortals — and with a Hall of Fame induction all but assured, early high-end Mahomes rookies are increasingly viewed as blue-chip collector pieces.
This particular card is not only a true rookie and flagship "Rated Rookie" card, but the Gold parallel offers a striking team color harmony — a deep red Chiefs jersey set against the golden refractor border, creating a visual synergy few cards achieve. The Rated Rookie shield, an enduring hobby icon, cements its status as a culturally resonant collectible.
With the market shifting its focus to low-pop, early-career color-matched parallels of generational athletes, this card sits firmly at the confluence of scarcity, pedigree, and player excellence. Few modern football issues command such attention across collector and investor circles, and even fewer surface in Gem Mint condition.
An elite grail piece for the modern-era football collector — and a museum-worthy investment in the legacy of Patrick Mahomes.Show more
